Why Appliance Repair Companies Charge a Diagnostic Fee
A diagnostic fee catches people off guard, because we expect a price before we commit. But appliance faults do not announce themselves — "my dryer won't heat" describes at least six failures with very different price tags.
The only honest way to price the job is to open the appliance, test the circuit and find the component that actually failed. That takes a trained technician, a van, meters and time, all before a dollar of repair work is agreed.
What the $89 Actually Pays For
It is not a booking fee dressed up with a technical name. Here is the split.

The Fee Is Waived When You Proceed
This is what matters most: if you approve the repair, the $89 comes straight off the final invoice. Not a credit toward parts, not a partial discount — the whole fee disappears.
In practice most of our customers never pay a diagnostic fee. They pay for the repair, typically $150 to $350 with parts and labour, and $40 OFF any repair applies on top of the waived diagnostic.
Worked example: your dishwasher will not drain. The technician diagnoses a failed drain pump and quotes $220. You approve, the $89 is waived, $40 OFF is applied, and you pay $180.
What "Free Diagnostic" Usually Means
A free diagnostic sounds like the better deal, but the visit still costs money. The van, the fuel, the technician's hour and the insurance do not become free because the advertising says so — that cost is recovered in the repair quote.
Which creates a quiet incentive problem. When the diagnostic earns nothing, the visit only pays off if it produces billable work — the wrong pressure to have standing in your kitchen. It nudges toward padded quotes and toward replacing an assembly when one small part failed.
We would rather be transparent: a clearly stated $89, waived the moment you go ahead, and a technician free to give the honest answer — including "this one isn't worth repairing".
A fair caveat: plenty of honest technicians offer a free diagnostic. The point is that it has a real cost — worth asking any company how they recover it.
What If You Decide Not to Repair?
You pay the $89 and that is the end of it. No obligation, no pressure on the doorstep, no cancellation charge.

How the Visit Works
- Book a time through our booking page or at (437) 747-6737. A photo of the rating plate helps us check parts in advance.
- The technician tests. Symptoms, then error codes, then component-level testing to isolate the fault.
- You get a firm quote in writing, naming the failed part, before anything is dismantled or ordered.
- You decide. Approve and the $89 is waived, with the repair usually done on the spot. Decline and you owe only the $89.
